Sharia compliant hospital is not a completely new concept in the world of hospitals. However, not many hospitals in the world, including Indonesia, are committed to implementing sharia as a whole (kaffah) in the organization of hospitals and services.

One of the hospitals that were included in the beginning and became the pioneers in the implementation of Islamic sharia as a whole is the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital (RSISA) Semarang. RSISA is also a pioneer in the 2012 KARS plenary full accreditation accreditation. In addition, RSISA has also become a pilot project for the application of the first Shariah Hospital accreditation standards in Indonesia.

According to Kasule (2011), there are 7 criteria to become a shaikh Islamic house. Towards this point it has been very much sought to be fulfilled by RSISA. These criteria include architectural design; strong financial status, high in technology and quality; serving all patients regardless of religion or beliefs; organize medical services that are healthy and based on the latest scientific foundation; provide patient services that are holistic in respect of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social needs; and provide services and procedures that are not in conflict with Islamic principles. These principles are not easy to apply if they are not supported by genuine commitment by the owner, management, or executor.

The spirit of sharing knowledge and spreading benefits is felt in RSISA’s welcoming atmosphere to the MMR UMY group. Therefore, since 2017 MMY UMY Study Program has been collaborating with RSISA as a residency vehicle. With this program it is expected that students can learn from real cases about the success of RSISA and recognize the various advantages and obstacles experienced in the implementation of Sharia Hospital.

The MoU was signed by the Head of Master of Hospital Management UMY Dr.dr. Arlina Dewi, M.Kes. and directors of RSISA on January 18, 2017. In addition to RSISA, MMR UMY also collaborated with several hospitals that had various advantages in the national and international arena. Among the various hospitals include Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar Bali; Gamping PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital; and Klaten Hospital.
